This morning, my wife was watching the Virgin Space launch. Don't recall which channel, but one of the commentators made a statement that was something like "and the billionaire space race is so that you all can experience it too."
A *side effect* of the billionaire space race is *maybe* space flight gets "cheaper." But 100% billionaires are out for themselves. I don't think it's inherently wrong that someone privately has more wealth than some nations, and I don't necessarily resent that someone can do something like this. But it's the dishonesty and shittiness in a statement like "they want you to experience this." Not only are they NOT doing it so that "we" can experience it, but fuck me running we have billions of people on this planet that are soon going to experience global warming and famine and we're going to act like a dick waving contest between billionaires is aCsHuALly a favor because one day we're going to be able to be able to get molested by a spaceport security screener, after a two hour wait in line, wait for six hours on a boiling tarmac in an unairconditioned space bus with 60,000 hours on its air frame and less than half the maintenance it needs, sit on a tiny filthy seat with 4,000 farts trapped in it, get half a can of diet coke, and look across an aisle of drunken sweatpants wearing yokels (because we couldn't get a window seat) who are blasting porn on a cellphone without even the courtesy of wearing headphones, and get a tiny glimpse at a dying marble "just like they did".
I don't really give a shit about the rich guy anymore. I don't think he'd tell an odious lie like this. Fuck that news man.
